Next Phase of COVID-19 Vaccines

Dear All,

We want to keep you up to date as and when we can with the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccines. We have had sporadic deliveries of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, and so far had managed to vaccinate over 97% of our patients over 80 years old. With clinics this week and next, having completed our over 80s before the end of January, we move onto the next cohorts we have agreed to vaccinate – 75-79 year olds and patients on the shielding list. We aim to vaccinate all our Over 75’s by the close of business Friday 5th February and our shielders by the following Friday.

Just to remind you:

  • The Practice are only administering the Over 80s (80 or over on or before 31/03/2021), then 75-79 year olds, then shielding patients under 75 years old, who can attend the surgery. We will contact patients in reverse age order, but you are welcome to contact us to arrange an appointment.
  • District Nurses will vaccinate the truly housebound patients
  • ALL other vaccines are being administered by the Health Board
  • Please do not contact us to enquire if you are in a cohort being vaccinated by the Board

We are aware that for many individuals, the telephone call regarding the COVID vaccine may be better had with a family member who will bring them to the appointment. For this reason, we invite family members to email us on ggc.gp49214suggestions@nhs.scot  to give us their contact details and we will add this to your relative’s record. Please, do not use this email address for general enquiries about COVID or the vaccine, we are publishing all the information we have already and will not respond to any such correspondence.

Some of you may have heard from friends living elsewhere that they have already had their vaccine. Unfortunately, the roll-out does seem to be a little behind in GG&C, and there even seems to be some variability within GG&C as to which practices are receiving vaccine stock. We have no control of this, sorry, all we can do is pledge to give our vaccines as soon as we get them.

For full transparency, it is probably worth you knowing that the whole of the UK is working from the same prioritisation list, as below. This is not a secret by any means, but you wouldn’t know to look for it, so we thought we’d show you. You can assume that if you are further down the list, it will be a few weeks yet until you are contacted. We (the NHS) are currently working on category 2:

  1. residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
  2. all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers
  3. all those 75 years of age and over
  4. all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals
  5. all those 65 years of age and over
  6. all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which put them at higher risk of serious disease and mortality
  7. all those 60 years of age and over
  8. all those 55 years of age and over
  9. all those 50 years of age and over
